Imogen Rose is the author of the bestselling series, the Portal Chronicles, which has attained cult status within indie literature and become a favorite among teens and adults alike. An immunologist by profession, Dr. Rose published her first work of fiction in 2010. She now writes full time and is currently working on her second teen series, the Bonfire Chronicles. Imogen was born in Sweden and has lived in several places, counting London among her favorites. She moved to New Jersey in 2001. A self-confessed Hermès addict, Imogen freely admits to being obsessed with Kurt Cobain. She enjoys shopping, traveling, watching movies, and hanging out with her family, friends, and Chihuahua.
What if, once upon a time, I had taken that leap of faith?
Q) What inspired you to write this story?
This book is the fifth in a series, so the characters are strong in my imagination. I let them take over when I start writing. It’s like watching a movie. I am just the clumsy typist who tries to describe what I am seeing. The characters inspire and drive the story.
Q) How long did it take you to write?
The first draft took just over two weeks. But then, of course, there are edits, beta reads and proofing. The whole process takes about three months.
Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Not knowing what’s coming next. It’s like sitting down to view your favorite series on TV, watching the story unfold and surprise you.
Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Typing. I’ve never learned to type properly. I use the hunt-and-peck method.
Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
I’d love to be Steven Spielberg. I’d love to be in the position to translate what I am seeing in my imagination into a visual medium.
Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
That has to be the strangest question I have been asked in a while. :D It’s probably the bottle of ketchup, but it’s not that old.
Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I’m working on the Bonfire Chronicles at the moment. The next book is titled Uprising, and it brings my two series together. Those of you who wondered what was going on in the other dimension will find out in Uprising. I’m also working on getting my books translated into German, French, Spanish, and Japanese.
