After the Silence – Bree by Jacqueline Paige‏

Jacqueline Paige lives in Ontario in a small town that’s part of the popular Georgian Triangle area. No one has ever heard of Stayner, so she usually tells people she lives “near Collingwood” and no, she doesn’t ski at Blue Mountain or at all, in fact she’s not even fond of snow.

She began her writing career in 2006 and since her first published works in 2009 she hasn’t stopped. Jacqueline describes her writing as “all things paranormal”, which she has proven is her niche with stories of witches, ghosts, physics and shifters now on the shelves.

When Jacqueline isn’t working at her ‘reality job’ or lost in her writing she spends time with her five children, most of whom are finally able to look after her instead of the other way around. Together they do random road trips, that usually end up with them lost, shopping trips where they push every button in the toy aisle, hiking when there’s enough time to escape and bizarre things like creating new daring recipes in the kitchen. She’s a grandmother to four (so far) and looks forward to corrupting many more in the years to come.

When the Mother Nature decides she’s had enough and begins to fight back, survival takes on a whole new meaning. If the earth is the enemy – there are no rules and all you can do is try to survive the odds.

Those the planet allowed to live still have to survive the trials of the virus. If you manage to come out of it alive you are left with some form of mutation that could give you an ability that could be harmless or lethal.

Bree Taylor is the last survivor of her family. With no other choice she sets off on her own to escape the clutches of the new government’s army—that does not place safety and security in their code of behavior only the highest bidder get their protection and loyalty.

Living in a world of unstable climate changes becomes a journey she won’t soon forget. She has to be prepared for anything at all times out in the new country and has to be wary of every person she meets. All while staying out of the path of the new army.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
I don’t know if any one thing inspired After the Silence. I wanted to write a story about a young woman surviving obstacles life can throw at you—of course I threw a lot at Bree in her story.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
I came up with the idea in 2010, by February 2011 I was well into it and had it finished by June. Of course I spent the next 6, 7 months tweaking it.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I get to pick the ending! Actually, I don’t my characters decide more than I do. Very rarely does a plot follow my ideas. So I guess my favorite thing is that I get to see where a story’s going and where I can take it.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?

I don’t even have to think about this one – writing a synopsis. Asking the writer to summarize their 200-300 page labor of love in 2-5 pages (or less!!) it’s torture.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Honestly I don’t know if I’d want to be a famous person. I like my quiet (well, as quiet as the mother of five can have) and privacy and don’t think I’d want to sacrifice that for fame.

That and any people I thought of are actually deceased- so all I’d get to be in that case is … deceased.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Lemon Juice. I honestly don’t know how old it is. I had to buy a huge bottle of it to make lemon delight and of course it’s just one of those things that don’t have many every day uses. Anyone know a use for it??

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I have a lot going on right now. I’m working on volume 2 for After the Silence. I didn’t intend for it to be a series, but after writing Bree’s story I realized that Kane needed to tell his tale. I believe the first part of Kane will be out in Novemeber.

I also have the first in a new trilogy coming out shortly (I haven’t been given the date yet) The Witch Within is the first in the Ancestor’s Enchantment Trilogy.

Book 2 in the Animal Trilogy – Scent will be out this year as well. Again I don’t have the date yet.

There’s more but I don’t want to go on and on about it.

Thanks for having me here today!!

Step into a world of magic and passions....

Take a dash of spice, heat it
Add a flash of magic and watch the sparks fly
Toss in a killer that's targeting women
Add a handful of witches from all paths to stir it all together...

Patrick is a man that has lived a violent life undercover in all the wrong places, for too long. His light charm carefully keeps others from seeing the dangerous man that lies inside. He is the first for justice and will go out of his way to keep the innocent safe. He finds himself falling for the woman that was a victim of a sick and vile person and is caught between keeping her out of harm’s way and completing the job he needs to finish.

Rhonda is a woman that becomes a victim to the vicious attack of a killer. Even though she survives, she will have to learn to live with the scars for the rest of her life. In hiding she has to rebuild the strength to get through it. She is forced to spend her days and nights in the company of a detective, that seems to have no other plan in life than to constantly aggravate her and make her want things she may never have again.

When Patrick’s cover is blown and he is badly injured, the group of friends pull together to keep him and the recovering victim of a killer safe. As a result, the group of twelve become targets of the criminals after Patrick and have to live together in a safe house for Yule.

Can twelve witches follow orders or will they take matters into their own hands?

Release date:  March 15, 2013

Q) What inspired you to write this story?

I actually didn’t have plans to write a fifth book in the series but it nagged at me that I’d left Patrick and Rhonda just hanging at the end of Autumn Dance, so I sat down and dug a little deeper into their personalities to see if they had something to share.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
This one took quite a bit longer than the rest of the series. The first four books took me six months in total, I thought my hands were going to swell up from typing so much. Winter Mist was a little harder to unravel and put onto paper so it was probably six to eight months in the works.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I’d like to say because I know the ending, but I don’t usually. My characters have their own ideas quite often. I suppose I write the story for the same reason someone reads it, to find out what happens.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Proofreading/editing. Not the actual editing part, just the reading the same words over and over part. From the writing process to publication I think I’ve read the story at least twenty times, maybe more.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Oh my, who to pick? Being as my dream is to be a full-time writer (meaning I don’t have to work another ‘job’), I’d pick an author as successful as Nora Roberts just so I could get up each day / any day and write when I want to.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
The orange marmalade is three months old. I have four of my five children still at home, so nothing survives longer than a week in our fridge.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I have a few things the readers will be seeing soon. I’m working on the second story in my Animal Trilogy – Scent. Tiger shifter anyone? I’m also finishing up the first book in my new Ancestor’s Magic Trilogy – The Witch Within. The third book in the Hidden Senses Trilogy – Inner Reflections should be out in the spring as well.
