Wolf's Bane by Ash Krafton‏

Ash Krafton writes from the heart…of the Pennsylvania coal region, that is.

She is the author of the Books of the Demimonde (Pink Narcissus Press).

BLEEDING HEARTS (Demimonde #1) is a six-time RWA finalist and was voted "Reviewer Top Pick" by Gravetells.com. Ash continues the story of Sophie and her Demivampires in her latest release BLOOD RUSH (Demimonde #2). She's hard at work (when she isn't watching Doctor Who) writing the third book, WOLF'S BANE.

Ash Krafton's poetry and short fiction has appeared in several journals, including Niteblade, Bete Noire, Abandoned Towers, and Silver Blade. She's a member of Pennwriters, RWA, and Maryland Writers Association. She lurks near her blog and contributes to the QueryTracker blog.

Ash lives with her family and their German Shepherd dog deep in the Pennsylvania wilds, awaiting the day the TARDIS appears in the driveway (the dog most likely keeps the Doctor away. What a beast.)

Until then, she writes.

Since becoming oracle to the demivampire two years ago, advice columnist Sophie has battled werewolves and survived a vampire attack (or two). However, not only was she powerless to save her lover Marek when he slipped to the brink of evolution, she also witnessed his transformation into a falcon, the symbol of Horus United.

Sophie’s quest to save Marek is further complicated when rock star Dierk Adeluf – who also happens to be the king of the Werekind – invites her backstage after a concert. Just when it seems she will find respite from heartache, Sophie is bitten by a werewolf and Dierk decides she is destined to be his queen.

Sophie is caught between the demivamps she loves and the Were who commands her to love him. Throw in his jealous wanna-be girlfriend—a true bitch if ever there was one—and an ambush by witches, and there you have the big mess that Sophie calls her life. And, hello? Her soul mate is still a bird.

She’s supposed to be the girl with all the answers, but Sophie needs more than a little advice–she needs divine intervention.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
WOLF’S BANE is the third book of the Demimonde series. The first book, BLEEDING HEARTS, was inspired by a dream…and the rest became an obsession. J Once I began living in that world, it became hard to leave.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
That’s really hard to say, because I began outlining both the second and third books even as I completed the first. In essence, the trilogy was written simultaneously. I spent early summer 2013 amping it up and finishing it. The best part of that bizarre process was the ability to ensure continuity (as well as drop in leading details along the way.)

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
The 90% that happens in my head even before I turn on the computer or pick up a pen. I love the creative process—the daydreaming, the debating, the what ifs and the hows and the whys. There is a great deal of rule-breaking when writing, because new worlds need new rules.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Wanting to write and not having the time to do it. I’m a full-time pharmacist and an over-time mom which means my writing time is at a premium. Sometimes the muse grabs me by the neck and I’m powerless to give her what she wants. It’s really easy for me to sympathize with artists that go mad—being a writer means there are people in your head clamoring to be heard. Not being able to write it out is probably what causes the insanity.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Martha Washington. George Washington was one of the hottest founding fathers around—he was tall and strapping, gutsy and constant, and a real mountain man—the very essence of masculinity. Brave, intelligent, humble without false humility…sigh. Martha Washington was one lucky lady. Mount Vernon is still such a beautiful place to visit…I would love to have been her, just for one, simple, ordinary day, when the sun was shining, and the wind was gentle, and George was home. A regular day in the life. I think that would be wonderful.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Gosh, I have to look real quick.

Okay, there is a bottle of champagne way in the back. My husband got it for New Year’s 1997 but a friend of ours brought another bottle along. It was one of the last times the three of us got together, and he wanted to keep it as a memento. If we ever get the chance to meet up again, it’ll be a real reason to celebrate…and I think we’ve got a bottle already chilled.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
My paranormal romance WORDS THAT BIND is a story about a genie and his therapist. It’s coming out with Wild Rose Press. I also have several New Adult projects underway, which I’ll be publishing as AJ Krafton. First one will be a dark Victorian fantasy called THE HEARTBEAT THIEF. You can catch a glimpse of the cover on www.ashkrafton.com.
