Dancing with a Dead Horse by Danielle DeVor

Danielle DeVor spent her early years fantasizing about vampires and watching “Salem’s Lot” way too many times. After living briefly in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she moved back to her hometown to write. When not writing and reading about weird things, you will find her hanging out at the nearest coffee shop, enjoying a mocha frappuccino.

Sometimes lullabies aren’t soothing; they’re deadly.

Sixteen-year-old, Jason Miller, wants three things: to become a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter, graduate from high school, and avoid his mother’s ballet classes.

When he finds the body of the most popular girl in school, he has a major freak-out session, and then calls 911. But if finding a body wasn’t bad enough, when a horse doll made of human skin and hair is found in his locker, the entire town accuses Jason of the murder.

As the body count rises, so does the hostility. Jason is left with a choice: To run and hide or to clear his name and find out why the killer is targeting him before it’s too late.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
I wanted to write about a serial killer, and I got this idea for these horse dolls. Then, when I started thinking about who would be stalked by the killer, Jason started creeping in and the story started.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
About three months

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Being able to create new worlds or situations to explore

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Having to type everything in. I write longhand, so I have to type up my stories.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Probably, Pope Francis. I really think he’s trying to make the Catholic church into a better entity. Ironically, I’m not Catholic, but I really like a lot of the things this man is doing. Like, giving kids a ride in the Popemobile Easter weekend.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
A jar of blackberry jam. I think it is 2 years old, but it might be older.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I have three more titles coming out this year. Sorrow’s Edge- the next in my exorcist series is coming out in August. Then, Love Me to Death- a horror novella that is going to come out around Halloween. And, The Devil’s Liege- the sequel to Tail of the Devil will be coming out this year too.
