So I've decided to go for it. After taking some advice from a lawyer friend and going with my gut feeling, I am going to get my novel published with the e-publisher. It's not the traditional method I was looking for, but I think it will be all right. I never expected to make a lot of money at this writing thing, but maybe this will give me the exposure that I need. That first step in the right direction. Besides, it is my first novel; it's a rarity that those make it big. At least the end is in sight for this project. After working on it off-and-on for over a decade, it will be nice to lay it to rest. I think I will finally be able to have some closure and move on to other things.

I have also decided to get off my lazy horse and start working on some things again. Just a few short stories for now, but eventually I'd like to get to work on my next novel. That probably won't happen until next year, though, since we're so close to the end of this one. Hopefully, next year will be just as fruitful as the end of this one has been!

So I had a very interesting day yesterday. Late in October, I sent out my novel manuscript to a few e-publishers. On November 1, I received word from one that they would not accept the manuscript because there was too much passive writing. Not a big deal; I'm used to rejection. I decided at that point that I needed to find myself an editor and get this taken care of before submitting to other places. Then, yesterday, I received an email from another editor at the same company that said they have accepted my manuscript, under the condition that I fix the passive writing. Needless to say, I was a bit confused. After a few emails, everything was straightened out, and I think I have found a new home for my novel.

I know that this should be fantastic news and that I should be bouncing off the walls, but I find myself very reserved about the whole situation. I have almost been scammed before. Although I do not believe this to be a scam, I am still taking every precaution before signing the contract. I think it's weird: I don't think twice about it when I get a short story published on a site that doesn't pay, but when royalties are involved, I'm suspicious. I'm sure it will turn out just fine, and I will keep you informed...

Very exciting stuff to report. Residential Aliens has picked up another one of my stories. It is entitled "A Slightly Different Western Experience" and it is a modification of a story I wrote earlier. It should be coming out around Thanksgiving, along with the other story he is publishing, so you'll have to check it out!

Other than that, I have been very lazy. I haven't been working on anything new, and I kind of like it. Eventually, I will get back to my stories, but right now I am relishing in doing nothing!

It has been a great month so far. "Sohei" has been published on The Cynic Online Magazine, "The Most Important Moment in a 15 Year Old Girl's Life" is on Static Movement, and "Nekros Stratiotis" can be viewed at NVF. I also have another story entitled "The Rights of the Betrayed" coming out on Residential Aliens. All in all I am pleased with my accomplishments, but that now means I have to get back to work.
